“Doing Kumon everyday requires an amount of responsibility.” It is hard to believe that this came from a 10 year old!

Beverly may seem quiet on the outlook; she exudes confidence and showed maturity in her thinking. Very proactive in her learning, Beverly showed great ownership towards her Kumon study and developed a deeper liking for Maths.

When asked what she has learnt from her Kumon journey so far, the answer she gave was 2 Rs. Responsibility and Resilience. “Doing Kumon everyday requires an amount of responsibility. I need to follow a schedule to do work, stay on the right track and not give up. Resilience is to overcome challenges.”

Responsibility

Knowing her priorities and duties, Beverly is able to plan and follow her schedule well, allowing time for her favourite activities - playing the violin, piano and her French lessons. In school, Beverly participates actively in track and field and the Chinese orchestra too.

Resilience

Currently learning secondary school maths, Beverly studies difficult concepts independently and monitors her study progress. With an end goal in mind, Beverly has already planned to complete the Maths programme by primary six!

Learning materials that she has not yet learned in school not only nurtures Beverly to be a challenger, it is helpful to her in school too. For example, she had learnt fractions in Kumon before she studied them in school so she found learning fractions easier when taught in class. “School work is easier, because it is covered in Kumon.”

With her sheer determination and the skills she has gained, Beverly can surely realise her aspiration of becoming a heart surgeon who can help others in future.
