Inaugural National Advanced Students Forum (ASF) 2011

"When you meet challenges, please remember this award ceremony today and overcome those difficulties. What is most important is that you do not fail yourself, never give up until the very end, and complete thoroughly what you have started. Do not compete with others; always pursue your own potential, and improve yourself. That is how you become capable people who can contribute to the society. When you are able to contribute to the lives of others, you gain the love and respect from them, and you will find a life of happiness within your reach."

In his opening speech at the inaugural National Advanced Students Forum (ASF) on 12 November 2011, General Manager of Kumon Singapore, Mr Masahiro Takatsu congratulated all awardees on their excellent achievements and expressed his wish for them to continue to maximise their potential and become capable citizens who can contribute to the global community.

This year, only students who have achieved advanced study of five years and above the Kumon International Standard (KIS) were invited to the ceremony. Together with Completers, students who have completed the programmes, all associates and parents witness and celebrate the boundless potential of children.

A total of 276 awardees and 148 Completers were awarded and one of our youngest awardee is Tarra, a five year old who has completed materials that is equivalent to primary four mathematics contents. Mrs Leck, Tarra’s mum, shared that she had not expected Tarra’s achievement at this young age. She also shared that Tarra not only gained discipline and a solid foundation, she is also able to develop her potential and learn according to her ability.

"If you don’t let them try, you will never know. Children can achieve much more than we can ever think of," said Mrs Leck. This year is a special year for Mrs Leck and her two children as both have achieved advanced study of five years and above their school grade levels in Kumon.

Our founder, Mr Toru Kumon believed that the human potential is unlimited. Every year, thousands of Kumon students study materials higher than their school grade levels in the Asia and Oceania region. Such an experience allows students to develop their self-learning ability and essential life skills that can help them to overcome future challenges with confidence.

Not drawing a limit to conventional classroom standards, we aspire to keep on maximising children’s potential. As children continue to break boundaries in their daily learning, we look forward to celebrating the accomplishments of more and more children at the National ASF next year.
