Continuous Learning is the Key to Mastery and Success
Ho Bing Xuan
- 6 years old
With the intention to give Bing Xuan early and greater exposure to Mathematics, Bing Xuan’s parents enrolled him in Kumon when he was six years old. Thereafter, not only did Ho Bing Xuan develop his ability in Mathematics, he also gained greater confidence when tackling Mathematics and even Science problems in school.
Bing Xuan is also an outstanding painter in his own right, and has won many awards from taking part in various art competitions since young. “I personally feel that the art of doing well in both Mathematics and painting actually requires an accumulation of practice and experience,” said the 16-year-old Kumon Mathematics Completer-to-be.
“I find that it is meaningful to attend Kumon classes regularly, even if my duration of learning in Kumon is longer than others, as I can be consistently exposed to Mathematics concepts which I have not yet mastered,” Bing Xuan revealed. This learning experience, albeit tough sometimes, is certainly one that he values. He was able to enhance his problem-solving skills and at the same time, learn independence.
Studying above his school grade level, Bing Xuan once thought that what he learnt at Kumon might not be relevant to his studies in primary school. However, Bing Xuan came to realise the true value of advanced study when he was able to apply the advanced concepts to his advantage during PSLE, as well as his secondary school work thereafter. “My calculation skills improved a lot and I am able to analyse Mathematical problems better,” he shared. He added that studying beyond school grade level in Kumon has benefitted him as school work becomes easier to cope with.
With the support of his parents and Instructor, and driven by his passion for knowledge, Bing Xuan conquered many challenges in his learning journey and now continues to find pleasure in his Kumon studies. "What I like most about studying in Kumon is the fact that it provides me the exercises that complement the Maths topics learnt in secondary school,” he explained.
Bing Xuan, who will soon be advancing to Level O - the last level of the programme which consists of calculus and integrals, is very excited about completing the programme this year. Steadily working towards his future aspirations, Bing Xuan is a self-driven and independent learner who keeps a positive mind-set towards whatever he does. He believes, “The higher you go, the more benefits you will reap. Never give up!”
